Patient Hygiene Training
Rendora StudioHello, I'm Winston, a nursing educator at Sunrise Health Clinic. Today, I'll be reviewing the key principles of patient hygiene care and how they support safety, comfort, and recovery.
Patient hygiene care includes the use of clean, sanitized equipment and proper support with daily bathing, oral care, clean clothing, and regular linen changes. Routine skin assessments and disinfection of high-touch surfaces also help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients.
For patients who cannot care for themselves, start by ensuring privacy, explaining the procedure, and preparing clean equipment. During a bed bath, clean and dry each body area thoroughly to maintain comfort and skin health. Patients should also be repositioned every two hours using proper techniques and supportive pillows. During repositioning, check for redness or skin damage to help prevent pressure injuries.
Always perform hand hygiene before and after patient contact and care procedures. Use gloves and appropriate protective equipment as needed, and change them between tasks. To prevent cross-contamination, use clean equipment and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly.
Thank you for your commitment to high-quality patient care. By following these hygiene practices consistently, we can create a safer and more positive environment for every patient.
