Clean hands save lives. Handwashing is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stop the spread of germs.

Proper handwashing removes bacteria and viruses that cause colds, flu, and other infections.

To wash your hands effectively, follow the seven steps: Palm to palm — Rub your palms together with soap.

Back of hands — Rub the back of each hand. Between fingers — Interlace your fingers and scrub.

Backs of fingers — Rub the backs of your fingers against your palms.

Thumbs — Rotate and scrub each thumb. Fingertips and nails — Rub your fingertips and under your nails.

Wrists — Don’t forget to clean around your wrists. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a towel.

Wash your hands at key times: before eating, after using the restroom, after coughing or sneezing, and whenever your hands look or feel dirty.

Together, we can build a healthier community. Remember — a small habit with a big impact: proper handwashing protects you and those around you.
